A Different Fractal Analogy

The self-similarity manifested by the Cosmic Web involves massive primary filaments, connected to secondary filaments, connected to tertiary filaments, etc.

In addition to the analogy with the fractal structure of neuronal connections in the brain, there is a physical analogy to the distribution of charged subatomic particles in a highly excited plasma. The interplay between repulsion and attraction among the particles leads to a fractal sheets and filaments distribution of the particles. In this analogy galaxies play the role of the charged particles.

Does this alternative analogy make sense from a physics standpoint? The link below argues that it most certainly does.
