Brownback’s “Red-State Experiment”
This is a summary from Wikipedia:
“Brownback was elected Governor of Kansas in 2010 and took office in January 2011. As Governor, Brownback initiated what he called a “red-state experiment” — dramatic cuts in income tax rates, intended to bring economic growth.[8] He signed into law one of the largest income tax cuts in Kansas history.[9] The tax cuts caused state revenues to fall by hundreds of millions of dollars and created large budget shortfalls.[10] A major budget deficit led to budget cuts in areas including education and transportation.[11][12] While Kansas’s economy has performed reasonably well since the cuts were passed, the economies of neighboring states have done as well if not better.[10] In the run-up to the 2014 gubernatorial election, over 100 former and current Kansas Republican officials criticized Brownback’s leadership and endorsed his Democratic opponent, Paul Davis.[13][14][15] Brownback was reelected in a close race with a plurality, a margin of 3.7%.[16] In June 2017, the Kansas Legislature rolled back Brownback’s tax cuts and enacted tax increases.”
So now we are embarking on a GOP-nation Experiment that appears to be quite analogous to Brownback’s “Red-State Experiment”. How will the Great American Experiment fare over the next 3 years? Einstein’s definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over and failing each time, but always expecting a different result next time. Meanwhile the 1% are comfortably above it all, and are surprisingly well insulated from any problems that might afflict the common folk.
