Determinism and Predictability

It has been my understanding that chaos theory and the behavior of nonlinear dynamical systems are fully deterministic and fully causal. What Lorenz discovered was that perfectly exact predictions were extremely rare in the real world of nature, if not impossible, because they require perfect information of initial conditions and all external influences.

Am I wrong on this?
