Do you know the true story of Kasper Hauser? He was rescued from semi-isolation as a teenager. He could speak one sentence that he was made to learn. You could call it teaching or programming; the difference seems highly semantic to me.

AlphaGo independently came up with strategies that no one had thought of before.

Also, if I remember correctly AlphaGo, or a related AI, went on master a highly complex (requiring innovative strategy) gaming task, and beat expert human players.

Without instruction a baby gets virtually nowhere. Same with computers. I do not mean to belittle the awesome power of a well-developed human mind, like Einstein’s. No AI is close to developing a new paradigm like General Relativity. But no baby can match current AI.
