Evangelicals Love Trump and Bolsonaro! Why?

How is it possible that christian evangelicals can be true believers in Trump and Bolsonaro? One struggles to think of political leaders who behave in ways more diametrically opposed to the teaching of Jesus such as love , honesty, rejection of greed, and tolerance. And yet evangelicals tend to be rabid supporters.

Unfortunately, one must conclude that the evangelicals are easily controlled by demagogues, using lies and their bait-and-switch manipulation. Not that long ago Trump was firmly pro-choice. Now he is the first US president to attend a big pro-life march and claim he is their strongest supporter. Bolsonaro is peddler of hate, violence and greed, but appoints creationists to key science posts.

What does that say about the human condition in the 21st century? It says that at least 40% of humans can be brainwashed and controlled by demagogues, their super-rich puppet masters, and their media enablers. The lack of objective critical thinking is truly alarming. The zombies march in lock-step, while those who should oppose the attack on reason and democracy are too busy with identity politics infighting, and getting/staying in office, to mount a concerted opposition.

Where is the Force of reason, honesty and integrity when it is so badly needed?
