Foreign Assets Publishing On Medium?

If certain foreign countries, and/or far-right American plutocrats, wanted to foster unrest in America by publishing inflammatory material on social media, blogs and sites like Medium, how would the average citizen be able to discern that they were being manipulated? The 2016 election was clearly infected with many well-documented examples of foreign actors inciting anger on both the left and right. Misinformation fostered a sense of rage, despair and chaos in America. A narcissistic demagogue who would obviously create further division and chaos was actively promoted since he was such a useful tool. This was done primarily on the most influential social media platforms.

But what if certain foreign or domestic entities also wanted to sow the same confusion and division on more respectable platforms like Medium? All they would need would be authors who were willing (for political or pecuniary reasons) or who were unwitting pawns with an axe to grind against America and who could be heavily promoted by various seemingly innocent means (like 1000s of “Likes”).

These authors would relentlessly disparage America and blame the country’s failings on specific groups, and point out the suffering of other specific groups. Using the selective repetition of regrettable historical incidents and virtually ignoring anything representing positive change or the historical actions for which America was rightly admired at home and abroad, they would promote their agenda.

One way to reveal hidden agenda, is by carefully analyzing what they do not say. If they never subject certain bad actor countries who are even more deserving of criticism than America, one has to wonder why there is this obvious bias. If they react with fury when anyone points out their obvious bias, or when a reader dares to criticize certain countries with extremely repressive governments that are on their “do not question” list, one has to wonder about their motives.

Maybe they are just cranks who like to get clicks and profit thereby. Maybe they have deep-seated grudges against America, and/or have psychological fixations that limit their worldview. Or maybe there is method to their madness.
