I have read and enjoyed The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy by D. Adams.

Note that in my original response I specifically identified pattern recognition AI. Neural nets are very powerful at pattern recognition, and getting more powerful with time.

The key thing about pattern recognition AI is that if you minimize the theoretical and assumptions input, you get a search for fundamental patterns that is not biased by having been indoctrinated for decades in the “standard models” of particle physics and cosmology, or things like string/membrane theory.

There is the real hope that you would get unbiased pattern recognition results, and possibly new principles for understanding the cosmos.
