Here’s A Completely Outrageous Idea For You

Say an advanced civilization in a distant star system wanted to explore other star systems in the Galaxy or beyond. Knowing the dangers of contact between civilizations at different stages of advancement, they would consider disguising their probes so as to appear as inert natural objects that would not raise suspicions or alarm. Inside its innocuous exterior would be a cornucopia of data-gathering equipment.

So now this somewhat mysterious asteroid, Oumuamua, a dark red cigar-shaped object with a length of 4 football fields whips through the Solar System in a hyperbolic orbit and retreats. Nothing quite like this has ever been seen.

Makes for good science fiction, no?
