I am currently reading Keith McCormack's book on osteoporosis and bone health:

The Whole-Body Approach to Osteoporosis: How to Improve Bone Strength & Reduce Your Fracture Risk (The New Harbinger Whole-Body Healing Series). Available at Amazon.

It is a longer discussion of the topics in your essay and related matters. Like you he makes this subject matter quite interesting and personal.

Dr. McCormack was an Olympic athlete who was amazed to find himself diagnosed with severe osteoporosis at 41 years of age. He taught himself the biochemistry. and endocrinology of bone health and pretty much cured himself. He was able to run Iron Man races in the new millennium.

At 74 I suddenly found myself in a similarly shocking situation. In the near future I hope to cut my losses with 2 years of Tymlos, followed by 1 year of Reclast. I will not be hoping for atheletics, but just an approximation of normal walking.

Everyone 50 years or older should get a simple bone mineral density test, and start early on treatment if they are at risk of osteoporosis. Starting early has huge advantages, and waiting too long has huge disadvantages.
