If the observations conflict with LCDM models, it would make more sense to question the cosmological models before tampering with General Relativity, which is the most conceptually elegant and well-tested of our current fundamental theories. It is a “theory of principle”, rather than a “model-building” effort, and it has made many predictions. It has yet to fail any conclusive test.
