Is "Hawking Radiation" real, or fiction?

Ethan's starting and critical premise is that it is real. Perhaps he can point us to scientific literature documenting an actual direct observational detection of "Hawking Radiation". Good luck with that!

I fear he will be unable to offer any empirical proof of this hypothetical concept, and so it remains a theoretical construct.

Where does that leave the arguments relating to the information paradox?
