It’s Exceptional Exceptionalism

The idea that humans, or their planet, are the center of the Universe, and that we are unique and alone, is an idea that science has been moving away from at least since Democritus in the 5th century BC.

It is logically possible that we are alone in the cosmos, but I would estimate the probability of that is vanishingly small.

Much has been written on this issue by academics and mere mortals. I leave it to others to do their own research and draw your own conclusions. Since no definitive answer is possible yet, it is wise to wait for definitive scientific evidence, to express your expectations, to search for hints of new empirical or theoretical inroads into the question, but to avoid unresolveable arguments.
