LIGO/VIRGO Data: 27% Primordial Black Holes Indicated
Just posted to the Arxiv preprint forum on 5/10/21 is a paper that looks at the existing Ligo/Virgo data for evidence of a population of Primordial Black Holes generating some of the events.
Here is the preprint: https://arxiv.org/abs/2105.03349
And here is the take-home message: “The evidence for a primordial population is decisively favored compared to the null hypothesis and the inferred fraction of primordial black holes in the current data is estimated at 0.27[+0.28−0.24] (90% credible interval), a figure which is robust against different assumptions on the astrophysical populations.”
Perhaps we are finally closing in on the final chapter of the long-running Dark Matter enigma. The new scientific experiments that could seal the deal are discussed in the paper. Hopefully the gravitational wave observatories will be back online soon, and crucial new telescopes will be launched without major delays.
