Magical Thinking in Physics?

Many experiments have searched for proton decay and found none.

Thousands of experiments have searched for WIMPs, axions, sterile neutrinos, sparticles, etc. and found none.

Has theoretical physics become magical thinking unencumbered by empirical guardrails?

Maybe it is time for genuinely new ideas that can make definitive predictions and pass subsequent empirical tests.
