One more key trait.

When Einstein told Max Planck about his idea for General Relativity, which would replace Newton's theory of gravitation, and revolutionize our understanding space, time, matter and dynamics, Planck said (roughly): 'You are almost certainly wrong, but even if you are right, no one will believe you'.

Did Planck's warning stop Einstein? Not a chance! He trusted his intuition and welcomed the advice of others, but the former was his most trusted guide.

Einstein was an independent thinker who was willing to follow a lonely path if his intuition and the empirical evidence strongly pointed to that path. He had real scientific integrity.
