There is so much “smoke and mirrors” in the current paradigm, and so many empirical failures at finding WIMPs, supersymmetric sparticles, free quarks, magnetic monopoles, strings, extra dimensions, etc., that Nobel prize-winning physicists have overtly stated that we may need a new paradigm.
When the dark matter is identified it will tell us whether or not we have been badly misinformed by false prophets. If the dark matter is not comprised of exotic (to put it politely) subatomic particles, then the whole just-so story of the “standard models” is ripe for revolutionary change. As if it was not so already!
