This is an awesome novel with a main theme of trying to get an advanced neural net type of machine to read, talk and think. Although it is fiction, it explores many of the questions about AI and human thought processes in a unique and highly creative way.

And they book is about so much more regarding love, the human condition, obsession, gullibility, etc.

Since I do not accept the “Ghost In The Machine” theory of mind, I think that AI will approach, and perhaps even surpass, human thought capabilities with a series of ever-better models. The human brain took eons to evolve. AI on a par with humans should arrive in many orders of magnitude less time. But exactly when is hard to predict.
