Scientist Speak With Forked Tongue

After the podcast goes through many minutes of arguing the claim in the title of this story, it finally comes to admitting the obvious. While the Inflationary Scenario requires an extended object in order to inflate, there is nothing that rules out a singularity being present before inflation starts.

For decades we were assured that there had to be an initial singularity. Now the soothsayers claim that there may not have been an initial singularity. One thing is quite clear: no one can scientifically prove that there was, or was not, a singularity that gave rise to the observable universe. Assertions about the physics before the Bang are just hand-waving speculation.

Cosmologists speak with arrogant assurance; they are “often wrong, but never in doubt”.
