Sticky Wicket!

The statement: “ Mathematical truth is whatever offers a good theoretical model for physics and engineering in the real world”, is going to make pure mathematicians angry as white-faced hornets.

Surely you mean applied mathematical truth is whatever works in the real world. Pure math is not confined to the real world, but can be done in Platonic worlds of complete abstraction. In fact a lot of mathmaticians are happier exploring relationships in these imaginary worlds. The real world is so messy since Poincare opened Pandora’s box of chaos.
