The Deep State
Towards the end of screeds by the conspiracy theorists who rail against some mythical “deep state” one usually gets a hint of the new vision of how “we” will dismantle the global deep state and set up a new world order of shiny, happy people.
I am left wondering exactly how they plan to go about this. What are they going to do with those who have been tainted by the deep state: politicians, media personnel, professors, lawyers, bankers, intellectuals, business people, police, justice system personnel, you, me, etc.
Can we expect there to be vast re-education camps, and concentration camps for recidivists? Given the vast numbers of people who will need to be re-educated and/or incarcerated, will the blue plastic bags of the Pol Pot regime reappear as a much more efficient way to deal with the deep state problem?
These new world order visions come from the far left and the far right, but they all lead down a path of totalitarian misery that only their deluded leaders cannot foresee. Historically, on scales ranging from global to local, disastrous results have been repeated. Those who do not learn from history…
The middle path, with a true balance of powers and perpetual adjustment, may always be far from perfect but it is and always has been the world’s best hope and strategy.
