The Era of Precision Cosmology?
A decade ago we were assured that once a few parameters were nailed down with new telescopes and advancing tech, then we would have cosmology pretty much figured out.
Alas, we still have no idea what constitutes the overwhelming majority of matter in the cosmos - the enigmatic dark matter. Dark energy is still a mystery and may even be the product of mistaken assumptions. Our model-building continues and the standard model usually needs changes every time new empirical information becomes available.
When the dark matter is finally identified, the very small number of people who were always on the right track should be listened to at last, and those who have wasted 45 years and vast sums of money, as well as the careers of too many promising young scientists, leading everybody down false paths should move on to selling nutritional supplements on late night TV.
