If fusion generated energy could be made commercially viable, and if all aspects of the technology could be achieved in an environmentally relatively benign manner, then I would be delighted, and eager to promote it.
Currently the most optimistic hopes are for commercial fusion in the mid-2020s. But physicists have been hyping some real losers for decades, like WIMPs, string theory, supersymmetry, and now the execrable “multiverse”. So I am not moved by, or fooled by, promises. I would like to see serious empirical evidence that commercial viability is more than a persistent pipe-dream and obsession.
