What about fuel cells?

They actually work and are currently in use combining hydrogen and water to produce water and energy. I have read about fleets of buses that run on fuel cells and buildings energized by fuel cells.
They have traditionally been too expensive for widespread use, but the technology has been improving continually , and costs have been going down.
Solar is doing better every year and I think renewables are providing somewhere around 11 % of energy needs now. That’s a major increase in a reasonable period of time.
Let’s not put all our eggs and hope in one basket. Especially if theoretical physicists tell us it’s the only basket in town.
