What’s Wrong With “Democratic Socialism”?

Nothing! At least not to those with the capacity and willingness to understand that democratic socialism is quite different from socialism in the Marxist/Leninist or communist sense.

To avoid confusion among the conceptually challenged and to avoid smear tactics from the right-wing demagogues, may I suggest an alternative term: Democratic Altruism.

An altruist is one who is genuinely concerned with the welfare of others, and appreciates the wisdom of enlightened self-interest.

It is not so easy to whip up crude “populist” animosity toward Democratic Altruism.
