Yes, but remember the discoveries of Galileo, Relativity and Quantum Mechanics.
In each case, the previous theoretical paradigms did not offer paths to these remarkable discoveries, and suggested that Galileo, Einstein and Bohr would fail. It was contrary empirical evidence and the willingness to question dogmatic assumptions that led to these major discoveries.
Open-mindedness to new ideas is crucial to progress. Many pay lip-service to this idea, but how many actually practice it in our era?
